It's funny, then, that so many thousands of other people are using it without problems and loving it. If all it does is crash, then there's a lot of crazy people in this world.

Assuming that's not the case, perhaps you could post some more constructive information like, say, how it crashes and when and what you are doing when it crashes. Then maybe somebody could help you.

Downloading a great piece of software that a company is giving you for, uh, let's see here, oh yeah: FREE; and then posting on their (free) forums something as inanely, obviously, rudely incorrect as "all it does is crash" is not only rude and insulting, but also reveals you for the unthinking little wanker that you are. (I know that you won't take offense at that because I can tell from your own post that you think it's impossible to be offensive. Either that, or perhaps I'm assuming you are following the Golden Rule and doing unto others as you would have them do unto you - and since you insult others who make a full time job out of giving you something for free, I must assume that you would have others insult you.)

Always remember: It is better to think without posting than to post without thinking.

Attention, I think tata means the "Collanos Phone Beta 2" (also called Collanos Phone V0.9), specifically the Mac Version running on the latest OS X 10.5.x "Leopard" operating system.

We had a glitch when releasing this, and overlooked a new library dependency that changed from OS X 10.4 to 10.5. The Phone actually runs fine on Mac OS X 10.4, but simply crashes on 10.5, that's unfortunately correct.

We promise to release the fixed Mac Phone running on Leopard ASAP. We are sorry for the troubles this may have caused. Also, we will look into restructuring the User Forum in clearer way, around "Phone" and "Workplace" products, to avoid mis-postings.

PS: wzeller, thanks for "defending" the Workplace quality. I'm afraid this was just a misunderstanding in this case.

Regardless, I think a little more tact and information would be a nice thing. I've had a few issues, too, but I just post a description of the issue and hope it can get resolved. I also try to convey my gratitude for what is an amazing piece of software. I don't know how my company ever got along without it. (We are a 100% telecommute company - everybody works at home. I haven't even met any of my employees face-to-face. Without a shared virtual workspace, we'd be sunk.)

But, I'm sorry if I stepped on any toes. I really do respect what you guys have done and it irks me when somebody acts like it's nothing. If all it did was truly crash, I could write the app myself. At least it would be dependable: It would crash every single time on every platform.  Grin

It's funny, this amazing piece of software still crashes only. I like it. There's a lot of crazy people in this world.

Hello tata
many thanks for your feedback. As you my have read in previous posts and replies from other users the software can run quite smoothly and is used successfully as serverless virtual team server by thousands of users distributed around the globe. Sure, this does not really help if you experience consistently crashes with your Collanos Workplace installation.
So let us find out what causes these crashes. Collanos support is glad to look into the issues of your installation. I understand that you are using Mac OS X 10.5.2. Anything else that could help us to replicate this issue?
You may have seen - if your workplace is not crashing immediately after starting it up - that there is a feature to send your problem reports including logs to Collanos support. Choose Help and then Report Problem/Bug and provide us with as many details as possible. We are very interested in understanding and fixing this issue.
If this is not possible just contact us via http://www.collanos.com/en/company/contact to let you know where to find the relevant logs to send to us.
Cheers
Peter

tata, could you please be so kind and help us? Are you referring to...

  • Collanos Workplace     - OR -
  • Collanos Phone              ?
I had pointed to a possible misunderstanding about this on May 2nd (see this thread), but we didn't hear from you.  Huh

Thanks a lot!

Thanks for letting us know it was the Collanos Phone application crashing.

The current Phone version is indeed still the beta release we had uploaded in March, and - this is a known issue - it doesn't work on the Mac Leopard, that is OS X 10.5.x. The good news is, in the meantime we have FIXED this problem and are about to release the improved Phone version. It will take us approximately another week or so to finish with all the final testing, but it will be out any moment now.

We appreciate your trying our software and hope it will work fine for you.
