An interesting question came in through email regarding Collanos use with users on a LAN.

Hello,
Approximately 20 people in our office are using collanos. We have a
download speed of 384 kbs max and a upload speed of 64 kbs. When several
people at once use collanos, we find that our internet connection crashes.
The usage log shows collanos using 32 kbs ports (minimum) for each computer
all the time. Is there a way to change this? Can we route collanos via LAN?
We love the program, but it's difficult to use if if we can't sync!

Whenever Peers "see each other" Collanos is using direct communication to synchronize their spaces. This means that Collanos Workplace users on the same LAN do not use the internet for the synchronization of their workspace data. If traffic goes through the internet in such a situation the peers to not see each other and Collanos is using the relay server to route the traffic.

This happens most probably because of Firewall settings on the peer's PCs that do not allow direct communication between the computers in the LAN. Opening communication for Collanos within the LAN (and even better allowing the computer to communicate to port 97xx of other computers in the LAN) will enable the direct communication for Collanos Peers and reduce the internet network traffic.

Kind regards
Peter
