Hi,

Our company is very impressed with Collanos and would like to make it standard in our business. However, we are a company that works in many 3rd world countires, where we experience difficulty with accessing good internet connections. Because of this, we don't always want to sync every file in all our workspaces as soon as we get a connection - we want to receive notifications that files are available or have been changed (so just download a file 'header') and then if we need that file, then we can choose to download it. Otherwise we are wasting bandwidth downloading everthing as soon as a connection is established, that isnt necessary..

In relation to this, a big problem in eating up bandwidth is that if you are invited to a workspace, and then uninvited from that space, you have to download the space and then it is deleted.. Why can't it just cancel the workspace mid-way thru downloading if it's been uninvited or deleted?...

Just small issues like this are causing us big problems where internet connection is bad/slow.

Another frustrating thing is - can we have a "Clear Message Notification History" box?! In the process of setting up Collanos in our company, I have had 1000s of messages that I dont need, and the only way to clear them is by clicking on each one, takes AGES!!

Other than that, its a god send!

Regards,
Sam

Dear Sam,

Thank you for your interest in Collanos and for your suggestions.

We will analyze them and decide if we can include them in the next releases.

Below I will summarize your suggestions and please correct me if I am mistaken.

Suggestion 1: To add an option like "Smart Download" in Collanos Settings such that when this option is selected only file names and not the files will be downloaded within a workplace, then to download the file the user shall manually select it for download (for example, right-click on the file and select "download" from context menu).

Suggestion 2: To give user the possibility to cancel workplace or file download. - Actually I believe this may be unnecessary if we implement suggestion 1 - what you think?

Suggestion 3: To add the option to "Clear all unread messages".

Also, I invite all Collanos users to comment on this topic and let us know if these new features may be useful for them.

Best Regards,
Alexander Onishko

Suggestion 1 is cool, i hope you guys can implement smth like this asap because the file transfer box is very limited right now, you cannot keep track of who of your collegues has downloaded what and when... i mean there shuld some tracking of the file transfer.
if i am A and i want to send a file to B and C, i want to be sure that they downloaded it and i want to know when they completed the download.

also i have a little question,  i dont want to open a new thread for this caus eit might be stupid question:
i see my outbound transfer always increasing while the inbound decrease to zero always. is that a problem of my collanos or it is normal and it represents the total amount of kb transfered?

best regards

Yes, this is exactly what we are after. As I said, we often work on dial up and super slow internet connection speeds within our company as many of our employees are based in Africa, India, Pacific Islands etc. So it is not helpful when they log on and have to suddenly download 50MB+ worth of data! They/we just want to download what we need, when we need it.
If you can include this feature, it would make using Collanos much easier for us. How long would this kind of modifcation take?

Yes you're right, if can download on demand as per suggestion 1, this no longer becomes an issue so 50MB of workspace being downloaded does not happen unnecessarily.

Suggestion 3: To add the option to "Clear all unread messages".

Yep, in the process of setting up Collanos in our company, we have 1000s of messages pop up, and its annoying and a long process to clear them all 1 by 1...

For this matter, when I turn off all notifications in COllanos, I still get pop-up messages telling me when something has changed... How can I turn these all of completely?

Thanks,
Sam

Hi Looplab,

The IN box shows the traffic queued for download to your workspace. So, if there is nothing queued it should be zero. That's ok.

The Out box shows the traffic queued for upload from your workspace to your colleagues' workspaces.

So, normally, the number in this box should be decreasing. It will increase when you, for example, add a new file to shared workspace.

I'm affraid I cannot tell you right now.  I will inform you as soon as we include this feature to the development plans.

Also, please note that I have added a survey for the users to vote for or against this new feature.

http://forum.collanos.com/index.php?topic=1707

as well as a poll about the second your suggestion.

http://forum.collanos.com/index.php?topic=1708

For some time we will be collecting feedback from the users in those topics.

Can you please tell me the following:

1) Which OS do you use? - in full detail please
2) which exactly setting is selected - "Disable all sounds and alerts"?
3) Notifications of which exactly events still arrive after you select this option?
