I am a current user of Groove and want to move my folders/files from Groove to this application.  The only easy way this seems to work is to copy the folders from Groove to my desktop, then copy the folders into Collanos Workplace.

For small folders this works fine.  However, when I copy folders with a lot of sub-folders a with thousands of files between them all, this takes a very very long time and eventually seems to fail.  In order to recover, I have to close the application and start all over.  Since Collanos adds a second copy of each file I copy to it, I have to delete what I already copied and start from scratch.  I can copy each sub-folder but this can get very tedious when there are hundreds of them.

Any thoughts?  Overall the application works great with the exception of handling this large import.  Hate to say it but Groove actually handles this with ease but isn't cross platform (which is one of my goals).

Thanks,

Dear Dmiddlet,

The time needed for copying files mostly depends on the hardware parameters of your system.

Still, there is also one tip that could be helpful to prevent failures:

When you copy, as you say, "thousands" of files to some workspace ABC,  when you started the process of copying files, just switch to another workspace XYZ.

In this case the system will not need to refresh the folder where you copy the files all the time and this will save some system resources.

Best Regards
Alex

Thought I would give that a try... here's what happened:

1. Deleted the folder from my desktop.  (Going to re-copy it from Groove since some of it has changed)
2. Deleted the existing folder from my Workspace so I could re-copy it from my desktop..... been waiting for that to complete for over 30 minutes now.  Application is working but not very responsive.. Java is using about 60-70% of my CPU and I have over 800 megs of memory still available.

The performance I am getting isn't making me very happy.  I can't blame it all on the system since Groove doesn't have these issues on the same computer.  I will have to say it is the Java performance that is killing me.
