Hi,

I have been using Collanos for over year now and I (and few colleagues) have started facing more and more problems related being offline.

Collanos shows mainly connecting, occassionally it might be able to contact and replicate but mostly the status is shown as offline. Just few weeks ago it was still quite okay though it had some problems.

There might be some differences between different computers on how often this occurs.

Any ideas, known issues?

We are having the same problem.  No one on our team has been able to connect today, or for nearly all of yesterday.

Previously, the indication of whether one was online or offline was a bit buggy (e.g. I have been able to synchronize with others while I was supposedly offline).

But this is different, it seems that no one can connect to Collanos or each other, even if some of us are on the same LAN (behind the same firewall).

Same problem at my end. We have been using Collanos for over 2 years and have a large amount of our Company information on the system. We started to get glitches in synchronisation a couple of days ago and now there is no sync. at all with "Connecting" permanently displayed in the Status box at the bottom right of the screen.

Yep, us too - we're in the middle of a website launch and have teams all over the country relying on sharing documents using Collanos - we've been frozen out for 31 hours (and counting).

Tried ringing Collanos in Zurich, goes through to an answering service (no-one in the office I'm told), Peter Helfenstein not answering his mobile phone either (I'm told) - going to ring the San Francisco office as soon as they wake up...

V. frustrating, such a fabulous product, you come to rely on it heavily, and then this.....

Same here :-(

As for now we're just evaluating.

System down, no help to get ...

We'll see ...

Hope it will be over soon  ...

Same problem for us too - we have Collanos running on five machines and haven't been able to connect for the last few days.  It is really causing problems as we have come to rely on it.  Have put two requests for help into Collanos but no response as yet!

we are having the same problem - the software gets 'stuck' at connecting. This has been happening on and off for a few weeks, but we have been unable to connect for 3 days now.

Like everyone else posting entries, we are loosing faith in the product.

The lack of response makes us worried they have gone out of business? Anyone know anymore?

Collanos' potential is *exactly* what I've been searching for: P2P, online & offline functionality, secure, etc. Unfortunately, today's 1st loads on a Mac and on a PC both encountering a "connecting..." problem - meaning they never connect.  Embarrassed

Perhaps seeing the December 2009 comment by the CEO that a version 1.5 is due out by end of Q1-2010 will solve this and more.

Also, seeing their foray into "paid" premium services bodes well -- at least from a business plan / cash flow perspective. "FREE" is just so difficult from a sustainability standpoint.

So...I'll not invest significant energies to troubleshoot the current version and sit back, waiting for the *BIG* announcement - Version 1.5!! (ta da! trumpets sounding)

The fact that the service has been offline for a week does not bother me anywhere near as much as the fact that there's been no official response.

We're making migration plans, and will move soon if there's no official word from the collanos folks.  It appears they have lost interest in the product...

Top in the running right now is JungleDisk and their new sync client. You set an encryption password which is not shared with jungledisk, giving it very high security.  It's not free, but I'm happy to pay a few bucks a month for a collaboration service that does offline and online sync securely and won't disappear on me.  It just syncs files, which is fine for our uses, but if you used more of the metadata extensively in collanos it might not be a good fit for you.

Does anyone else have good alternatives?

The JXTA Rendez-Vous Servers are now up and running again. We are sorry for this very slow reaction to the issue. Kind regards Peter

Peter, thank you! (Although I am a *newbie* here, I suspected there had to be some "relay" servers in the middle that are polling & forwarding events from the workplaces.) And indeed, you've not only fixed the issue but confirmed my thinking.

I'm an old *Groove* guy. At 30,000 feet, the concept of relay servers is similar to Groove's. Really great when they're running! Seamless, behind-the-scenes, working their magic!

Again, thank you!   Grin

Thanks.. we saw our clients flood with updates suddenly yesterday afternoon. While we are using a "free" software suite from your company it probably does not give us a lot of room to complain, but it would be nice if someone like yourself could at least acknowledge when problems like this occur by communicating with us in these forums rather than waiting until the problem is resolved and communicating that to us.  Thanks again.
