An appealing way to help people move from managing projects via their email inboxes to Collanos workspaces would be to implement the automated mailing-in feature found in Jotspot and some other wiki-like teamware solutions.

As I recall, posting to Jot-based discussion forums have an option to automatically email members who want to receive notices.  The Jot-generated email contains a unique "reply-to" ID that sends the user's response automatically into the discussion forum where the posting was made.

This allows for threaded views in the workspace without requiriing the email-habituated to break with their usual system. Over time, as inbox inundation drives them into teamware spaces, their migration can be a relatively fast and painless one.

You're right on the money Mark.

Getting people to 'Think Out of the (In)box' is where we face the biggest challenges. Falling back to using email, in the context of a team project, is a trap we ourselves fall into quite often.

We, Collanos, need to make the transition from using email to Collanos, in the context of team projects, much smoother even transparent to accelerate the adoption of Collanos as the default team collaboration solution.

This is where users' input, such as your's, help us prioritize our development efforts on the most integral email functionality required in Collanos Workplace. Points of integration with email abound. We need to know which would be most useful for our users.

Gil,

Relating to the email issue, Collanos could spread awareness of its teamware by enabling (when Managers of a workspace so allow) a right-click on a file or item to email it to a person outside of the Collanos community.

This action -- or its Mac equivalent -- would:

- launch the user's email client

- autoattach the targeted item

- insert (if the Manager desired) a cc: or a bcc: to the Manager and/or an actviity logging address; and

- include, at the bottom of the outgoing email message, a brief note on Collanos benefits as well as an invite for the user to download and visit a Manager-designated active or sample workspace.

A capability along these lines could soon enable Collanos's rapidly-expanding user base to easily send out thousands of individual emails each day introducing others to the benefits of coming aboard...

Awesome!
This is the precise input we seek:
-What new feature do you need?
-Why you need it?
-and how will it benefit the Collanos commuity?

Our Product Team will work to promote this feature in our roadmap.

E-mail is not going to disappear anytime soon - even with Collanos turing out to be a good stable environment. We need integration with e-mail inside Collanos.
Atleast on the Mac, I can suggest a couple of ways to do this:
1. Integrate with MailTags - a Mac developer will know of the product. By tagging something in Mail that should belong to Collanos, the e-mail should be copied to a discussion in Collanos - either by Applescript or internal to the OS.
2. Create an Applescript in Mail - that copies the selected e-mails and places them inside Collanos.
