Title: Data directory storage size / cleanup
Post by: conio on October 13, 2008, 11:21:11 AM
Hello,

I'm a happy Collanos user but noticed something that made me curious. I looked at the size of my Workplace Data directory and noticed that the size was several times larger than what I expected (it was like 4 gigabytes, should be much smaller than that).

I removed myself from all workspaces but the data directory was still very large. I removed the whole directory and started on a clean slate and invited myself to the workspaces that I previously belonged to and the storage size went up to 1.1Gb (which is reasonable).

Is there some kind of bug with cleaning up some kind of cache or stale data? Is there something one can do by himself to reduce the size or analyze what's taking up storage? I know I've earlier had some problem synchronizing workspaces with other with some earlier version of Collanos.

Otherwise than this issue I'm very happy.

Thanks for any suggestions in advance!

Hello,

All new content in workspaces, as well as all changes and commands, are processed by a replication subsystem. This internal process stores all these "units of change" (we call them "replicas") for a while in order to give access for other members to it whenever they want. This system is currently optimized for best synchronization. The downside is a growing internal replica storage. We have recently begun to improve the automatic cleaning-out of not-needed replicas. We will continue to improve this situation, so that the overhead disk space consumed for storing replicas will further be minimized with the next application releases.
