Title: Collanos Workplace process (javaw.exe) increases dramatically in size over time
Post by: arneme on December 07, 2006, 01:46:01 PM
We have noticed that when running Collanos Workplace 1.0.0.9 on Windows XP the javaw.exe process increases dramatically in size over time. I realize that the Workplace itself is stored encrypted in the application and that a strategy like that will make it increase in size, but even when I only have one small Workplace that does not change within a time period the process grows in size. After two days of running it has grown from ~20 Mbyte to ~130 MByte and is still growing. The workplace has not changed in the same period.

The question is therefore: is there possibly a memory leak in the application?

I have noticed this on our WinXP machine -- the javaw.exe after a few hours takes up to 90% of the CPU, and brings all of the apps to a crawl.  Hope this can be fixed soon -- no problems of this kind on the Mac.

Bingo!
We have just deteced this issue last week (on my XP too!) and are trying to locate the 'leak'.
Will keep you posted.

Title: Re: Collanos Workplace process (javaw.exe) increases dramatically- 1 GB per day!

Gil,

I do hope a fix for the memory leak comes soon -- our Dell notebook runnding WinXP has only 5 GB now left of hard space, and it is shrinking fast!

Since installing Collanos a few days ago, we have been losing about 1 GB a day of hard drive space on evidently because of the memory leak.

My Mac has "twinned" folders with the WinXP but does not have this problem.  (It does have one frustrating issue -- the Collanos workspace stays buried behind other apps, even when I click on its icon in the Dock... appreciate if that one can be resolved as well).

On the WinXP machine -- which shares all of the same Collanos folders on the Mac -- nothing turns up when I do a search to find Collanos files that could account for the 3+ GB loss of hard drive space in the past few days.

Is there any solution that I can try, short of uninstalling Collanos on the XP machine?  It is getting pretty urgent to find a solution...

Best,

Hi Mark.

The 'leak' I was referring to in the post was related to the CPU, not the hard drive. What you are describing for your XP machine is something different which is new to us.
I will contact you to get more specific details of this problem.

Mark,

I had a similar problem to yours on a Mac.  I came to find out that I had an operating log file that had been eating up 12.5 gig of my hard drive.  My bet is some how logging got turned on and this caused the problem.

The other thing we found out was that when I performed a backup of my data, somehow a copy got left behind after I deleted it.  Also, two large files I had used during testing got left behind in my binaries.  The total space being consumed was 10 gig.  We are fixing this problem.

Now that I deleted the backup, files in the binary, and log, I have 22.5 gig available.

Can you please check to see what is causing the disappearance in the your file system.

Here are some tools that can help you do this:

Mac and Windows

Mac (This is the one I used)

Let me know as soon as possible and we will help you solve this problem.
