Our team is sometimes in the office and sometimes at home.  We'd like to create two instances of Collanos for the same person.  It appears this is not a feature today.

As a work around we want to create two user id's for each team member - User Name - Home, and User Name - Work.

Is this the best way to meet our objective?  If so, I'm having a problem re-setting my Home instance of Collanos to be under a new user ID, because it was already set up with the id on the other collanos instance.  (Confusing?)

How do I delete a user from an existing instance of Collanos to reset up as another.  I tired Un-installing but that did not delete the user value.

Thanks for any advice.

Hello,
you take the right approach. Collanos Names are workplace installation names not user IDs at the moment. Please use a unique Collanos Name for each installation of Collanos as you propose.

In a future release - but not immediately - we plan to support a Collanos User name that can be used with multiple instances of Collanos Workplace meaning that all these workplaces with the same user name would contain the same content. THIS IS NOT THE CASE RIGHT NOW. Every instance of Collanos has its Collanos Credentials, meaning a Collanos Name and a Password to access it.

If you login into a Collanos Workplace with a different Collanos Name the system will ask you if you would like to create a new blank Collanos Workplace or import Collanos Data into a new empty workplace from a backup. If you do not know exactly what you do CLOSE that window and use your Collanos Name for that Workplace instance! We are going to make the messages that Collanos Workplace provides in these cases more clear.

*******************
In short: Make sure that you use a unique Collanos Name with a Password (or THE password) for each of your Collanos instances (on each computer you have or if you have multiple instances on the same computer for each of them). I recommend to use Collanos Names that contain some information reminding you on the instance's location. If you search for user Helfenstein you will find PHWin, PHUbuntu, PHWinXP, PHVista. Like that you always know for each installation which user to login with  Wink.
********************

If you login with a new Collanos Name and you chose the option to recreate a new space all other instances of Collanos Workplace that had been used with that Collanos Name get obsolete. They will show up as red users for the other members since they are not replacated with the teams content anymore. Such red users need to be uninvited and reinvited by other team members. Like that the teams then again work with the most recent workplace instance for that specific Collanos Name.

If you would like to switch Collanos Name of a Workplace (actually to delete the workplace and restart with a new Collanos Name) you can just start the workplace program using a new or existing name. Collanos will delete the old data and start with that new name after you answer the dialog in such a way. I personally in such a case prefer to uninstall the workspace, delete all the data directories and start installing workplace in a clean environment using the new or existing name. It has the same effect since the user needs to be reinvited.

I hope this complicated text answers your question.
Regards
Peter

P.S. It is good to use the term Collanos Name instead of User ID. Collanos Names are not user IDs.
