Today we have released a small maintenance patch that fixes a memory problem that could happen in some circumstances.

For instance, during intensive content replication situations, the internal Java memory management (so called Heap memory) would not be cleaned out properly from old transport-route related information, and would gradually fill up, which would in turn lead to slow response or stalled situations. Again, this would occur only occasionally for users with many active members and ongoing replication processes.

This patch fixes this problem. The patch is being provided via the auto-update mechanism. Existing users simply need to restart Collanos Workplace to trigger the automatic update process.

Note for Vista users: On a Windows Vista with the UAC (User Access Control) activated, if Workplace is installed in Program Files, the software update does not work unless you start Workplace with the 'Run as administrator' option.

As for Vista a similar note for Linux users:
If Collanos has been installed with the root-user (e.g. in the folder /opt/CollanosWorkplace), the automatic update functionality is not working when Collanos is started as normal user due to missing write permissions for this user.

To fix the automatic update, change the owner of the Collanos folder to the user working with Collanos with this command:
sudo chown -R {username}. /opt/CollanosWorkplace/

I also would like to download the update manually. Maybe it will fix my startup problem (MAC OS). It crashes right after the workspace appears.

Having problems with our group and this update. One user automatically updated to 1.3.0.4 but some of us have not..or at least it still shows 1.3.0.3 in About... but it does show in the log that some sort of update related to 1.3.0.4 was installed installed successfully.  The user with 1304 added a document to one of our shared folders, but the rest of us were unable to see it at all.  One thing I did notice was that she was adding a document from a LAN drive and not her local C: drive.  Once she imported from her C: drive instead we were able to see it.  What's strange though is that all the older documents she added previously were from the same LAN drive that didnt work this time.    Any reason why some of us do not show 1304, but when we go to check updates it says there are none....?

Unfortunately, the last automatic update to 1.3.0.4 - while technically working perfectly - isn't updating the version number listed in the About dialog. It still shows 1.3.0.3. The problem is only in the user interface. The update was successful, that why you can't find any newer updates.

You can easily double-check to see if the last update worked fine. Just click the button "Feature Details" in the About dialog. The line containing "com.collanos.feature.workplace" should show version "1.3.0.4". In this case, all is fine!

Regarding the other problem with sharing documents, it should - most likely - not relate to the last update. Could you help us narrow it down and do a few more tests? I propose to start using very small files (just a few kB), to see if and how things work. Also, if you have problems in one workspace, try the same in a new "test" workspace. The goal of all these various tests should be isolate the problem, i.e. to verify if (or if not) the problem does indeed related to the special LAN drive you're importing the files from.

If you can confidently reproduce the error, please send us the log files from the sending Workplace. You can use the "Report Problem/Bug" function in the "Help" menu. Our support/engineering will be able to analyze them and possibly find the cause. Thank you.
