The same happened to me. Luckily I saved the files from one of the other in the group.

Same experience - after upgrading both my workspaces are gone. Workspace collaborators report the same thing happened to them.

Using Collanos for Mac OS X

----

UPDATE: I started Collanos 1.1 and the workspaces were back. Collanos 1.2 installs under a different directory; it leaves the 1.1 application around.

1.1 => /Applications/Collanos
1.2 => /Applications/CollanosWorkplace

I have the same problem on Vista.
However, the new version did overwrite the old version, and even a backup I had from the old version fails to be imported.
It seams that the software created a new empty profile in
@user.home/Documents/data instead of in
@user.home/Documents/Collanos/MyWorkspaces/data like the original.
Any help?

Hello,
sorry to hear about these problems. Intense testing internally and with beta users over weeks with different platforms is not as good as real life testing with thousands of users.

Workplace data not being visible after the update means most probably that the new version does not find the data directory with the workspace data anymore. To help us identify the issue(s) we need as much information as possible.

What operating system are you working with? What was your previous release of Collanos workplace?

Did you have any special settings for your Collanos data path in your previous release? Did you have multiple instances of Collanos installed  on your PC?

The most important information: How did you install the new version? Some questions and probably hints:

1. If during installation you chose "updating existing installation" Collanos Workplace takes the information about the data directory from your existing program directory.
Should that information not be correct, a new data directory would be created and you would see a new empty workplace with just a sample workplace.

"munnin" who has different program paths for old and new version seems to have  an issue with a program directory different from the one of his previous release:

2. Actually during install choosing "installing another copy of Collanos" (instead of existing installation) and then selecting "Standard installation" leads to exactly the setup "munnin" describes. A new Collanos Workplace instance is installed in a program directory named "CollanosWorkplace" different from "Collanos" (the old name). Starting Collanos Workplace then will show an empty Workplace with only the sample space.

3. If you "install another copy of Collanos" and select "Custom installation" the installer will show and let you select "Application location" and "Data location". If you use that option you see exactly what directories are chosen for program and workspace data. If you choose the "old" data directory here, your existing data will be upgraded and used by the new version.

Did you choose 1, 2 or 3 when installing?

With more detailed information we should be able to fix problems with "disappering" data. Please get in touch with us so that we can help you finding the solution. We are going to communicate here as soon as we know more.

Cheers
Peter

->No, no

-> I used method "1", telling it to update existing installation

As I noted below:
It seams that the software created a new empty profile in
@user.home/Documents/data instead of in
@user.home/Documents/Collanos/MyWorkspaces/data like the original.

How can I safely change this setting, should I reinstall or is there some value somewhere I need to tweak?

Update:
I uninstalled and used "method 3" and all data was correctly imported.
This is on Vista, updating from version 1.1

Peter,
I had the same problem upgrading from 1.1 to 1.2 on my XP machine. I used option 1 update but spaces were lost. I am pretty sure I have not altered the default data directory when I initially installed 1.1.
I noticed that the new installation had installed different user-data folders in my "Eigene Dateien" folder than during the first installation of 1.1 where it created a single folder collanos with all necessarry sub-folders.
Now I tried to import the folders from that old directory but that was not possible means, an error message told me that these folders were not viable data folders (can't recall the precise message but it was not possible). So I uninstalled everything, deleted all collanos related folders, re-installed 1.2 with the result, that all workspaces were lost on my XP machine.

However, I tried the same with my 2nd machine, which runs VISTA. Again I chose update, again I have not altered the default directory but again, it did not find the old spaces. I then tried to import the spaces from the old directories and this time it worked. I could then re-invite my other account on my XP machine and after some extended period of waiting to connect the machines are now up and running with all spaces again.

But another problem occured again: both PC's are shown offline most of the time although they are definitely online.
