Support for the old Workplace version 1.1 will expire and its P2P infrastructure switched off, most likely around the middle of December. All users are required to update to the new version 1.2 as soon as possible. Read this post to understand our support policy for older versions.
Collanos Workplace 1.2 was released on November 9th 2007 with over 90 bug fixes, improvements and new features. We confirm that during the first four days of operation we ran into (partly serious) problems with our P2P infrastructure (version 1.2), but all blockers and major issues were fixed rapidly. Since Monday night Nov 12th we have been fully operational, with only the following minor limitations.
At this point there are only two remaining infrastructure-related minor issues: - Long initial connect-time (http://forum.collanos.com/index.php?topic=1193.0) - Sporadic pauses of relayed traffic (http://forum.collanos.com/index.php?topic=1194.0) We have already identified the causes of these issues and expect to fix them within the next 10 days - or until about the end of November.
From the moment when the new infrastructure (v1.2) runs perfectly fine in all aspects, we will leave the old infrastructure (1.1) in place ONLY FOR TWO MORE WEEKS, then switch off. This will be around the middle of December.
Unfortunately, we are not in a position to support old and new systems in parallel and it doesn't make sense either in the case of the 1.1 to 1.2 switch, because they are not compatible. All users are required to update to the new version 1.2 at this point. We also need to redeploy the old servers to better support new infrastructure.
In the future, we will support a limited interoperability of different versions.
We understand that certain users would prefer to maintain the "status quo of the old version 1.1" because it just works for them and maybe some are afraid of problems moving to 1.2. We can assure you that that moving to the new version is painless in most cases and if you encounter some migration issues, you will be helped by tech support. Please check the "Known Issues" section for more details.
