Release Notes For Version 1.0.0.7

Today we released an update to the Collanos Workplace 1.0 Beta 2.  If you are not prompted automatically to download the new updates, please make sure to check for them in the Help menu under Software Updates -> Find & Install.  To optimize the performance of your workplace, it is recommended that all of your teammates install the latest updates as well.

A. Things we fixed in this release

There were several fixes released in version 1.0.0.7. We are getting a lot closer to a non-beta 1.0 release.  We were able to make the following improvements:

1.  Replication Improvements – Replication of large files now works very well.  We tested Collanos by sending 50 megabytes of documents and 200 megabytes of audio files and the system performed very well.  You can now feel confident in sharing larger files with your team members.  Large files take long especially if they are going through firewalls, but you will find this same problem with other mediums of file transmission.  We are constantly working on replication engine improvements and performance.   

2.  We Added a Replication Monitor – When transferring files you can now see how many kilobytes you are sending and receiving across all of your workspaces.  This should give you confidence that the system is transmitting files.  This was our first introduction of this feature and we have identified some bugs with our implementation, we are working on solving them.

3.  Invitation, Small File, and Workspaces Replication Performance Improvements - We were able to improve the performance of our invitation, small file and workspace replication engine.  This allows invitations, smaller files, and workspaces to be sent faster.

4.  Presence Improvements - We have been working hard on improving our presence issues that we identified in our 1.0.0.6 release notes (http://community.collanos.com/index.php/topic,160.0.html).  In this release, we streamlined our presence engine, this improvement will improve the stability of your peer’s presence display. However, users who are currently uploading/downloading may not be visible to others.

5.  Email Messages With Confirmation Code Do Not Arrive – We have implemented changes to our SMTP infrastructure and configuration to prevent the most common email undeliverable issues.  We are constantly monitoring the system and improving our confirmation emails.  If you still run into this issue, please send us an email to: support@collanos.com.  Also, please go to our support forum and there you will find some helpful ways on how to solve further issues you may have regarding confirmation emails that do not arrive. http://community.collanos.com/index.php/topic,201.0.html


B. Things we are still working on

As we are getting ready for our Final 1.0 release, there are some open issues which we are still working on that will solve many of the challenges you are currently having with the current beta.  We hope to get these done soon.

1.  Presence and Search Inconsistencies – In our last release we had several challenges with presence and have addressed some of these issues in this release.  Currently, some of you may encounter difficulties in seeing other team members when searching or having inconsistent presence status when sending or receiving data. In both of these cases, the presence and search listings will auto correct themselves.  You do not need to restart.  We are working in eliminating these issues. 

2.  Discussion Incongruities – Currently we are having some incongruities with the sequence in which discussions are posted.  Some of the discussions are not posted in order and have some delays in their posting.  We are investigating this issue and hope to soon resolve this incongruity.

3.  Replication Monitoring Improvements – When downloading large files the replication monitoring will look like it is not working.  The total Kilobytes (KB) will appear, but the KB ticker will not decrease.  The system is not frozen nor has the downloading stopped. The monitor has a bug and does not count down until all the data for the large file has been received.  Synchronization still works.   

4.  Invitations Do Not Arrive To Some Users - After sending several invitations to a group of Collanos Workplaces, sometimes Workplaces do not receive the invitation.  This happens because the receiving application's presence goes offline for various reasons and the invitation does not arrive.  If the receiver does not receive the invitation within a few minutes, the sender should resend the invitation.

5.  Connecting Problems During Start-up – Some users have been having problems connecting to Collanos during start-up.  We are aware of this problem and will resolve it.
