hi everyone,

got a couple of questions regarding security on my computers and public computers. i've got a few projects going right now. while most are not of sensitive nature, i nosed around a bit but couldn't find the answers on the main website. first, are the files and folders  for the workspace data secure without my password? how secure? secondly, some team members don't have access to their own computers right now. can i have collanos workspace put on an internet cafe computer of my choice and limit access to files by user and password? i'd still hate to see someone just get into the C: drive and download our data.  any help and information here would be appreciated.

best regards,

ben

As far as I am aware...

It says that it is 256bit secure.

No data is locally stored, that is why it NEEDS the internet.

You can create a Temporary person (people) and only have them View the stuff but not modify and IF you feel that they shouldn't participate then delete the TEMPs.

Your data Can be saved locally when managing your data, backup is chosen. But it seems to only contain a lot of links and java...

If in doubt, don't use the internet for 'sensitive' stuff... even your emails bounce through many servers that can 'read' or store them. THAT is the joy of the internet!

okay i'll have to look into it more but i thought this was a P2P system and not server based. nothing we have is THAT sensitive but i'm more worried about competitors getting ahold of the information.

Found this for you under the Help/FAQs

Security and Privacy
How does Collanos protect the privacy of my data?
All data that is transferred from one member to another is encrypted using 256-Bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).
- We do not store your data – all data is stored on your and your peer’s computers. In the future we may add features that will require us to store your data (like global sign-on, central backup service, etc). We will only do so with your permission.
- We will not share, sell, or give away any of your data or member information.

So it IS saved on the Peers computers but it IS encrypted??

I stand corrected and correct too!! LOL

nice. thanks! anyway, one of the other issues is the storage of data on each user's computer or on public computers. we also have team members that don't have computers and are located in several different foreign countries.  i think there's a log in and an option to avoid going online with booting the computer so we could effectively "hide" it's presence to the casual internet cafe user but the data is wide open on the system. just tried the folders and files. are the files encrypted for each user, snazzyd? Anyone else know?
