Is there a method for attaching files in a Workplace folder to Thunderbird or Outlook generated e-mails?  So far I've only been successful in saving the file to a folder on my hard drive and then from there attaching the file to an e-mail.

Not yet.
The integration with email will be happening soon with features allowing you to be able to email out of Collanos, and add emails into Collanos workspaces.

The ability to drag a file from a Collanos workspace into an email is also being looked into.
Always open to users' suggestions!
