Collanos Workplace 1.1, Ubuntu 7.04, and JRE 1.6

I think this post will help one who wants install Collanos Workplace in Ubuntu 7.04.

If you are having any problem with Collanos (version 1.1) and Ubuntu (version 7.04), you have got an alternative to solve your problem, just following the simple sequence shown below.

Configurations:
- Ubuntu version 7.04
- Collanos Workplace version 1.1
- JRE version 1.6

Step #1 - Uninstall Collanos 1.1 from your system (if it's installed, if not skip to step #2)

Step #2 - Download and install Collanos 1.0 (you can download it form download.com)

Step #3 - Launch Collanos Workplace, which you just installed. It will warn you that there is another version newest (1.1), so accept and update your current one, from 1.0 to 1.1

If you follow this steps, instead of straight install Collanos Workplace 1.1 into your Ubuntu 7.04, the software will work ok!

I seem to be having problems with my install on feisty.
I installed 1.0 as you recomended, but the update it finds is 1.03 and it downloads but has an error while updating to 1.03.

What do you recomend?

It also seems that while it can find my currently online windows account, but my windows installation cant find my currently online feisty install of version 1.0

Hi Dennis,

Users need to upgrade to version 1.1 to see each other. Version 1.0 was before we added the central user directory therefore it will not work with any other later versions.
Can you add in your post what errors you get when upgrading your fiesty from 1.0 to 1.1?

I am confused by how you want me to upgrade.  If you mean by upgrading from inside the program that didnt work untill I ran the program with root privilages because it couldnt write to or create folders it needed to.  So i ran the upgrade from within the program with root privilages and now it wont start at all. 

Or

Do you mean i should run the install script for 1.1?

I appreciate your help, im at work now so ill try more when i get home.
Im setting up several vista computers at work and a few personal computers with xp with your program to try it out, It looks like it will work well once its figured out.

sorry by the delay to reply, I was (actually, I am) very busy

let's go...

When I was trying install version 1.1, I got an error message like that:
Have read the old JXTA ID = urn:jxta:uuid-59616261646162614A7874615032503385F7B45837864801B457A48A5B1A547E03
NetId(TL)=urn:jxta:uuid-75BE74BBCB414A438AF692B40644712202

so, I uninstalled version 1.1, downloaded version 1.0, and launched the install script (1.0)...
so far, so good

when I launched Collanos 1.0 (not logged as root), it suggested me to update to a new version (1.1)

I did that, and right now Collanos 1.1 is running ok...

Dennis, could you post your error messages? Maybe it could help us discover what is going on....

Sorry, but I cant neither. 1.0 and 1.1 installer does not work on my ubuntu 7.04

with the following message:
Unpacking JRE ...
Preparing JRE ...
Starting Installer ...
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:71: Engine "ubuntulooks" is unsupported, ignoring
/usr/share/themes/Human/gtk-2.0/gtkrc:241: Priority specification is unsupported, ignoring

The open setup dialogbox "Setup - Collanos Workspace 1.x" is in both cases emty.
