I am one of 5 members of a collaborative media production team. In researching P2P methods of sharing project files I came across Collanos which looks like it could be a great help in managing projects.

I have one question, though...
Can I access the shared files completely outside of the workspace? For example, I would need to transfer wav files to my studio computer to manipulate them, then transfer the results back into collanos so others could access them.
It looks like, from the website, that you can only open files through the workspace interface. Am I misunderstanding?

I'll post again with details of how we're streamlining our workflow once we are able to get up and running.

Hello,

You have described an important and useful functionality. Synchronization with hard drive folders within Collanos. We have this feature planned in our product road map, that is the option to work outside of Workplace on files (and folder structures) that will synchronize automatically with the Collanos application (either by creating duplicate files in Workplace, or just though a reference that points to the outside files/folders). We are currently in a research and prototyping phase and cannot commit to any release dates yet. If all goes well, we could release it around the end of the year

Thanks for the clarification!
I'll check back on those features - I'd love to be able to use it.

Greetings, am new to Collanos and extremely impressed with your super efforts and wish you the very best for future progress.

This post addresses a critical issue and it's extremely exciting to hear that allowing file locations outside of the workspace will be a shortly upcoming feature. I use The Brain extensively (www.thebrain.com) and hence I already have my files superbly organised locally. With Collanos I'll be able to address those locations easily (using standard windows explorer directory addresses) to the correct file locations.

Thanks and eagerly awaiting local file addressing.

What happened with this feature? Is it still on or off? When?

We are avid users of Groove since years BUT are looking for cross platform functionality. Collanos might be a good replacement. However, being able to index and make advanced searches via a "desktop search engine" among  a large number of pdf and text files is vital for us. Collanos encrypted work spaces doesn't allow this.
