Syncronisation with server

so im pretty new to this amasing program, but im having a bit of difficulity understanding the syncronisation between the different users of the workspace. it is only client based right? so if I add somth to the workspace, in order for others to see it there has to be at least 1 other user online to share the documents further to other users.

is there any server based application i can install on a private server in order for users to sync with the server when no1 else is online??
