Won't sync, members won't appear online... v 1.3

We were very excited by the idea of the software.  Unfortunately...

The files do not reliably sync.  It simply isn't consistent, and it seems that the longer we use the software the less it works.  Notes and Links seem to do ok, but .ppt files and the like are mostly dead in the water.

Members don't seem to remain online... When my associate thinks she's online she doesn't look like it to me, etc.  Restarting the program seems to work for that issue, but the files don't sync anyway.

It's very frustrating and makes the program unusable.  I've seen the other, similar posts, so we know it's not an isolated issue. 

To be clear-- The program initially worked fine, and has sporadically functioned as expected, so we're confident that it isn't the installs or our individual systems.  There's something clearly malfunctioning in Collanos. 

Update: 

We're now managing to update the workspace with 100 MB of new images.  So, newly added files seem to trigger the sync well enough.  However, we still can't get the existing files to sync despite the success with the newly added files.

[at the risk of duplication, I'm coping my issue, which is the same issue, to this thread, as "Won't Sync" is a major problem for. IN our case it is a) some folders on b) a Sleepless Peer/Workspace station... but it basically the same issue as jasond.

Answers to your tests:

1. Can the peers A, B, C chat with each other using the Workplace Instant Messenger?
YES
2. If you create a new space and invite A, B, C without problems?
YES
3. If 2. works, can you check if simple business objects (Task, Note, Link) work? How about Files?
YES They do
4. If you have replication issues only in certain workspaces, does nothing work, or just Files?

Bingo! this is it... I create a new work space just three days called Saivite Songs. It replicated in the Sleepless Peer/Work Place.. I have the latter open via Remote desk top... I added a discussion to that Saivite Songs Work place.. and it immediate appeared  in B


5. the workspace  "Web Server Admin" on my machine (A) has two folders:
   PCI Compliance
   Remote Database Access

on members (C and others) they see both folders  but on Sleepless Workplace (B)  only PCI  Compliance appears... If I add a task at A to PCI Compliance, it appears immediately in the PCI Compliance folder at Sleepless Workplace (B).

I have 3 other works spaces where I have added folder in work place A, where the work place appears in B but not the new folders.

So, we chasing it down to non-replication of new folders at this point. Sleepless Workplace (B) has been assign manager permissions to any work place  we invite him to, so I believe he should get everything.

OK. so now I go back to the new work place I made three days ago and create a new folder in Saivite Songs and add a note... viola... it appears in Sleepless Workplace (B)

So, further narrowing it down to: some folders in some work places created at an earlier time are not replicating to Sleepless Workplace (B) -- whether this is a glitch that might occur again in the future we don't know but new work places created as of today are replicating as expected.

Next test:  On work place A (my machine) I go to Web Server Admin and add a new folder "Sync Test with Sleepless" and a note "Test Sync"  The new folder is replicated

last test: go to the folder on A "Remote Database Access" that is not replicated on Sleepless Workplace (B) and enter a new note (thinking this might force an update, and replicate the missing enclosing folder as well.)

I add a new to folder inside folder "Remote Database Access" on A... blink: nothing happens at Sleepless Workplace (B

ergo: narrowing it down even further... possible corruption with some folders that is preventing them from replicating? I will need to check with other peers if they are see the folder "Remote database access"  I'm pretty sure they are..but only when I am on line and not from Agni. But that's no good. Replication and sync with the Sleepless Peer/workplace(s) is  "mission critical" for us. and it's not working.

You have faced some conflict situation and i will describe it a bit. Lets imagine next situation: two space members (1,2) have one file "A" . Member 1 go off line; member 2 make some changes in A file and save it. After several minutes member 1 make some changes in A file, save it and go on line. In this case on a previous Collanos version member's 1 changes were impossible to apply and future work with file were possible in view mode. The only way to receive updates and return to normal work with file was to delete file and add new version. On current Collanos version 1.3.0.3 such situation is fixed and the latest in time change would be applied in similar to the described situation (so for example user 1 changes would be applied finally to File A).

We also found that its unclear if and when a workspace becomes available. I've invited a co-worker to a somewhat larger space (20Mb) and it didn't show up for him. Inviting him into a smaller space (100kb) worked well for him.

I think it would be very good to have some sort of display which shows the a download queue, just like bittorrent clients would have. Then at least there's some feel for activity.

You are really right and you have described rather useful option. We were thinking about some kind of informative status bars or notification, or downloading space skeleton at first and only than content. In future we will implement some solution for this situation.
