I have created a new account due to problems with another account... Can the old account be deleted from the Collanos user registry?

Hi Bruce,
yes it can be deleted, at the moment by Collanos support only. Just let us know in a mail to support@collanos.com which account you would like to have deleted. So much to answer your question.

But did you have an issue with the specific Collanos Name/Password used for your workplace installation? Here some complicated technical details and important warnings, just in case:

Actually your Collanos Name gets the workplace data (the data of your workspaces in your Collanos data directory on your computer) assigned when you start it for the first time. In the Central user directory this relationship between Collanos Name and specific workplace data is stored.

Whenever you use your Collanos Name with new workplace data, e.g. when you delete your Collanos data directory, or when you use the Collanos name with another installation of Collanos Workplace , this relationship will be newly assigned.

Impact of the above:
1. If you delete your workplace data and start Collanos Workplace again with the same user name, all the other members who share spaces with you will be informed that the "team member" they were working with is not synchronized anymore properly. They will see the user in red (inconsistent user in workspace) and be asked to uninvite and reinvite your Collanos Name assigned to the current data to the space.

2. If you start your workplace and use a Collanos Name/Password that is different from the one that has been assigned to it, you will be asked whether you really want to do so. It this was not your intention you then need to leave the program startup process there and restart Collanos again using the correct Collanos Name.
If it was your intention, meaning that you wanted to use your Collanos Program with another Collanos Name and new data, you will be asked to either start with that name and an empty clean workplace (all workplace data will be deleted) or by restoring data from an earlier Collanos backup. In this case the Collanos Name will be assigned to new data and the data the "old" team member will be shown in red to the team members in the spaces you have been member.

3. The above (2.) can also happen if you start Collanos Workplace accidentally on another machine with a Collanos Name used with other data. E.g. on the laptop with the Collanos Name used with data on a desktop installation. Same effect as above if you do that. You will get a warning and if you go on you will see yourself with an empty workplace and team members who had invited the other Collanos instance that was using the Collanos Name before will see a red inconsistent member to uninvite and reinvite.

I am aware that this was not the answer to your question. I just mention this because it is important to understand that working with different Collanos Names can cause quite some issues. The basic rules to follow. Make sure you use ONE Collanos Name with ONE Collanos Workplace installation. if you change the Collanos Name you use with that installation you are going to restart with an empty workplace and the other team members will be informed by Collanos to reinvite you again. Make sure you do not use Collanos Names of one installation with other installations or both installations will run into above trouble.

For this reason I personally recommend and choose myself Collanos Names in a way that reminds of the machine it is used on.  Wink
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any doubts regarding the correct use of Collanos Names with Workplace installations. As long as you have other members invited to your workspaces your workspace data is backed up with them and you can get reinvited should anything go wrong.

Anyway, backing up Collanos data regularly through Collanos Workplace backup feature still makes sense!

Kind regards
Peter
