A. PROBLEM
This document provides instructions for users who are not being able to see their Collanos Icon’s on their Macs. Also for users who are having problems installing Collanos on their Mac or had Collanos crash after installation. If you run into any of the following three issues, please follow the instructions in this document to solve them. Problem with Collanos on a Mac caused by not having the latest Java Version (J2SE)
1) Mac user can store the Collanos icon on the doc, but they cannot always open Collanos from the doc. Sometimes the user cannot even store the icon.
2) If a Mac user opens the Collanos application from the bar or from the application menu, then the arrow below the application does not appear. The arrow signals that the application is open.
3) When pressing apple button and tab the Mac user cannot see the Collanos application.
4) Users cannot install Collanos on a Mac.
5) After installing Collanos on a Mac, the Mac crashes.
B. SOLVING THE PROBLEM
If you run into any of the above problems you most probably do not have the right J2SE version or do not have the latest J2SE version as your default J2SE. Please follow the following instructions to check what version you have and then to change the priority of your versions. Once you you have the right J2SE version and have it as the default version you should no longer have the above mentioned problems. How to check if you have the latest Java Version on Mac
1. Open a terminal (normal you can find it under - Application - Utilities - Terminal
2. Enter the following command: java version
If java 5 (1.5.0.xx-xx) shows up, then you have the latest version. If you have java 1.4 or an earlier version, then you will need to install it from Apple’s website: http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/j2se50release4ppc.html
If you have java 5 installed but you do not have it set as default you will need to set is as default for Collanos to work properly. This is how you would check and then change the default setting:
C. CHANGING YOUR DEFAULT PREFERRED JAVA VERSION
1. Go to the Finder – Applications – Utilities – Java – JSE 5.0 – Java Preferences and open Java Preferences.
2. Drag J2SE 5.0 ahead of other J2SE versions that may exist in the preferences secion called “Java Application Runtime Settings” It is very important that the latest J2SE is on top.
D. RESTARTING YOUR COLLANOS APPLICATION 1. Reboot your computer and open Collanos Workplace.
2. If this does not work, then you will need to uninstall and re-install Collanos Workplace and this should solve you’re your issue.
